Dean and Ruth first met through a mutual friend at university in Perth in April 2006. Ruth was studying at the time and Dean came up from Bunbury for the weekend. They spent their first night together drinking Passion Pop and eating spaghetti, as poor uni students do. It really was love at first sight for them, finding any excuse after that day to hang out together.

A year after they first met, Ruth had spinal surgery which involved a long recovery. Dean was amazing, spending hours at the hospital with Ruth, caring for her. Ruth’s family was very taken by Dean’s kind, caring nature.  Ruth’s mum, Jenny, knew Dean was ‘the one’ for Ruth over a few beers at the Moon and Sixpence, where Jenny and Dean took timeout from Ruth’s hospital visits.

Dean proposed in June 2014 when they were holidaying in Prague. Dean went out to get breakfast one morning and returned with flowers, a bottle of sparkling and the ring.

Their vintage inspired wedding created the perfect setting for a garden wedding in their own backyard, where both the reception and ceremony took place. DIY touches were sprinkled throughout the garden like signs, furniture and table decorations.

Ruth wore ‘Jayden’ by Stella York, while the bridesmaid dresses were modelled on classics worn by onscreen stars such as Audrey Hepburn.

Dean and Ruth said everything about their wedding day was perfect. “It was so special to have all of our wonderful family and friends celebrate with us in our home.” they said.

They didn’t have a traditional bridal waltz, instead they danced to a few favourites like Alannah Myles’s Black Velvet and Meatloaf’s I’d Do Anything For Love.

After the wedding and family had gone home they slipped away to honeymoon in Cairns and Port Douglas where they spent most of their time diving the Great Barrier Reef and exploring the beautiful Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge.
